I owned this car from about 1961 to maybe 1963. I was living in the UK at the time. We did a complete respray, new mudguards, exhaust, Hydraulic brakes, complete rewire, complete front and rear suspension rebuild, and some custom aluminum pods to house the rear flashers, and rear lights. I'm wondering where this car is now.

As a fifteen year old in 1967 my father purchased a Morgan F2 reg DLE 82 for my 16th birthday in January 1968. It was bought from the local vicar's son in Westcott nr Dorking Surrey where we lived. I loved it but sold it to a friend in the village in mid 1969 once I was 17 and driving a 4 wheeler. My friend sold it to his older brother who started a proper restoration over a few years. I don't think he finished it and the last I knew it had been sold to an airline pilot in Sussex. I remember the clutch wore out very quickly but I loved that car and still regret selling it.

I possess a photo of my Great Uncle and Great grandmother sat in it parked in their orchard near Wakefield. From their ages I'm guessing photo taken very early 1920's. its got cowled engine with heart-shaped cut-out, very low cut-away sides and acetylene lamps. Apparently is was still parked in a shed in the 1930's; but was sold around time of WW2. I'd love any information relating to its subsequent history!

Barrel back, 1100cc watercooled JAP. Reg HFC224 I bought it in
bits in 1960 when I was at college for £25 and rebuilt it and painted it
by hand (because I could not wait to get it sprayed). It was a great car,
my wife tobe worked in an office and she could hear me coming from half
a mile away down Winton high street. We took her cornwall and coming
back at bridgewater the nut came off the trackrod end and the front
wheels went in different directions- i was going slow at the time. The
bronze dif gear broke up, the woodrough keyway that took the clutch had
to be re-built and it was no good if you had just been to the
hairdressers. I was not allowed to swap it for a Triumph Tiger 100 so I
sold it and boughty a fiat 500. it soved the hairdresser problem!

I owned a Morgan three wheeler barrel back, with a Matchless Air cooled V engine, registration BUA 597, around 1960. I was an engineering apprentice with Handley Page (Reading) at that time. Unfortunately I suffered a phosphor Bronze worm wheel failure and it was off the road until I could locate a new part. Being poor at that time I could not afford to keep the Morgan and also purchase additional daily transport and so sold it for the princely sum of £85. I have always regretted it and perhaps one day will own another Morgan although a three wheeler would be very difficult to find now. The purpose of my e-mail is to enquire whether BUA597 is still around, and if not what happened to it. It would be great to see it again and of course if it came up for sale. In addition I do have a couple of parts which I believe are parts for a three wheeler and I will post a picture of them in a seperate posting. I do not want any money for them but would just like to know that they had been of use to someone. Best Regards Tony Wickens Tony Wickens [tony@alwint.com]

Looking at your excellent website, (never appreciated so many different engines were used), I was wondering if any of your members knows of the whereabouts of a 1935 F2 three wheeler Registration number DLE 82 which was owned by my brother Robert Slade in the early 1960s. It is not listed on the RAC free web-site of DVLA numbers. It was red when bought from F W Douglas in Ealing North London, but was re-painted BRG & then white when last seen by me 40 years ago ! It had the E93 Ford 8 side valve engine and I remember spending many happy hours replacing the main drive shaft between the engine & gearbox because the clutch splines had been machined away by the centre-plate. It used to wear away with predictable reliability. Quite embarrassing to find yourself suddenly drive-less in the middle of rush hour traffic ! I also recall forgetting to do up the strap and the bonnet flying up obscuring the view ahead !! This apart, the handling was most impressive. It was sold on and replaced by a V8 Allard K2 talk about chalk & cheese. Is ‘Wells Fargo’ still going strong ? Best wishes to all members - happy motoring. Edward Slade Christchurch Dorset. I'm delighted to come across such a comprehensive website dedicated to the
Morgan and was particularly fascinated to see pictures and reviews of a car
I used to own with the registration CWP173. I bought this water cooled 990cc
Matchless powered Super Sports Morgan in about 1963 and used it regularly
until the 28th July 1966 when we both failed to negotiate Kings Corner on
the approach to Dulverton in Somerset. This spill unfortunately left quite a
few dents. I clearly remember the next meeting of the Morgan club at Tooley
Street in London where various films, showing this car in happier days, were
being screened - I was relegated to the dog house for some time. I'm
relieved to see from some recent publications that CWP 173 is looking in
fine form again. In the 60's, driving a Morgan sometimes attracted the attention of enthusiast pedestrians who would hail me, or get into conversation at a garage, and ask if I would like to have (yes have for free!) various ancient vehicles and motorcycles they'd planned to restore but somehow never got round to, or had restored and perhaps lost interest. At one time I had several very interesting vehicles acquired this way, as well as motorcycles, including a Brough, some KSS Velocettes and an Indian - does this sort of thing still happen!? I have also attached some pictures of a three-wheeler van I bought in London. I can't remember what make it was but it did have an Austin four-cylinder engine. It was a somewhat perilous vehicle to drive but we travelled several thousand miles together, most of them at about twenty-five miles an hour! When I moved back to London, this van and a host of other ancient vehicles were dispatched to a collector on a low loader, though the Indian went to somebody by the name of Eddy, who worked for F.H.Douglass in London (that was about 1967 when Douglass' traded in real Morgans). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd love to hear from anybody knowing the whereabouts of any of these vehicles. I am seeking information on an F2-1935-Chassis F123 and original UK rego WS2683. Melvyn Rutter sold it some years ago to Ralf Suing who he thinks was from Waldbrol. Perhaps the German 3-wheeled fraternity has some further details. I have a film of the original owner driving it in Scotland in 1938.Thanks for ant help. From Jeffrey Jacobson/Carousel Properties:Hello, Gerhard, Jeff Jacobson from the east cost of the States here. What a marvelous website you have! Congratulations and thanks for all of the work involved with it. I have been a member of the MTWC for a long time, having both a 1936 MX2 Super Sports and 1931 Aero with a JAP 8/80 which I heavily race in the U.S and Canada. In setting up the 8/80 I relied on the excellent book, Tuning for Speed, written by Phil Irving who was the co-designer for the Vincent motorcycle and also was the designer of the Repco F1 engine. Finding that the book was no longer available on a steady basis in North America, I have arranged with the publisher to be the exclusive North American distributor of this fine publication. Attached please find a photo of my Aero and an attachment that shows an ad that will run in the next Bulletin. If you could fit this ad into your website, it would be most appreciated. Take care. 1100cc J.A.P.which I owned while an engineering apprentice at
the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. The log book
said it was an exhibit at the Earls Court motor show - it had
no chassis number. The previous owner had converted it to
foot throttle and replaced the cone clutch with one from a
Ford Eight. You've got a great site - brings back happy memories of Morgan owner's elbow (it stuck out and got wet!) ![]() ![]() Michael Buck [deemike@xtra.co.nz]

Dave Martin, now of Taunton, Somerset used to own the above Morgan which was an early three-speder Super Sports fitted with a 60 degree ohv water cooled JAP engine. He owned the car about 1966 when he was an apprentice at Morgans in Malvern. He would like to know the SS's current whereabouts. He sold it to a lad called Waynkoski in Kidderminster whose father was a teacher at Chase House School in Malvern. He has a photo of it during his ownership and I feel sure would be prepared to give the current owner a copy.

| Thanks John for the compliments! For those not so familiar with the big Morgan Community: John H. Sheally II made a famous run in a 1935 MX-4 Barrelback Super Sports by driving 3000+ miles from Virginia Beach to Los Angeles in less than 11 days. As a professional photojournalist he wrote a book on Morgans called "Morgans, Pride of the British" in which he also covered his run across the USA. In 1995 the Brumm Ltd from Italy used John's Super Sports MX-4 as source for a 1:43 scale model in an individually numbered limited edition of 7500. I have a photo of my late father sitting at the wheel of an Anzani powered Aero, taken I suppose in the 1930's. Where is AHG 277 I would dearly love to see the car again. I sold this car many years ago. It was brown with cream wheels and had an unsual access to the rear wheel. There were hinges at the bottom of the doors which allowed the whole of the rear end to be hinged up for access to the rear wheel gear box etc. It did not detract from the appearance of the car and a very good modification.

|
I got some very interesting Emails from Tony Quinn (UK) regarding brake drums to use with Morris 8 hydraulic brakes in a Morgan 3-wheeler. Tony gave me the permission to publish it here. Thanks!
Gerhard Kiessling [gk@morgan3w.de]
| Dear Gerhard At long last I have some news. There seem to be two choices for 8 inch cast iron brake drums to use with Morris 8 hydraulic brakes. As you know the original Morris 8 drums are steel and don't give such good braking as cast iron. Having said that, I used the original steel drums on both an F4 and an MX4 Sports that I owned in the 1970s and found the brakes OK for all road use, hillclimbs and a Silverstone half hour trial. Anyway, you can use either Hillman Avenger rear drums or Vauxhall Viva HA and HB rear drums. Both are available new from Speedy Spares Ltd of 25 old Shoreham Street, Portslade, Sussex, BN41 1SP. Tel (44) 1273 412764. They have an excellent Internet site at http://www.speedyspares.co.uk, and it includes an on-line catalogue. The Avenger drums are about £20 each, but are a bit too wide at 1.75" and therefore unnecessarily heavy. The Viva drums are £29.50 each. The Viva drum is 1.5" wide and was recommended to me, as was the supplier, by Sue and George Darbyshire who race a very fast F4 in the Morgan Motor Co/Morgan Three Wheeler Club Challenge series. Both prices are plus VAT and postage. As the Morris 8 shoe is only 1.125" wide, I have ordered two Viva drums. They are wider than necessary when using Morris 8 brakes, so I have had 5mm machined off the outer edge. Also, they have a rather thin wall thickness where they bolt on to the hub, so on the advice of George Darbyshire I have a 5mm alloy plate sandwiching it to the hub to spread the load. |
Hi Last month, I had a curious problem with my recently acquired 1937 F2. On braking, it showed a worrying tendancy to swerve into the middle of of the road - not a pleasurable experience. I returned home, and set about finding the cause. At first, I thought that as Cissy (SSY 485) had been in storage for a few years the most likely explanation would be a seized wheel cylinder (Cissy has Morris 1000 drums & front backplates) I found a wheel cylinder to be stuck - Problem solved I thought.... The test run showed that the car still pulled to one side... I decided to change all four cylinders and brake shoes... When I dismantled the N/S brake - I noticed something odd about the shoes - they were scuffed across the shoe rather than along it. This led me to the conclusion that the back plate was moving. Indeed what had happened was that when the last owner had fitted the brakes - he had brazed a washer in so that the spindle would fit through - on tear down I discovered that this disc was now loose which allowed the backplate to move and cause the brake to become ineffective. Therefore 1) If you have a car which pulls to one side this may be a causal factor 2) Just because you want to enjoy your car - check everything you can think of - not just what you assume it to be, when attempting to solve a problem IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!!!!! My father, Vic Hyde, owned this trike. I believe it was one of the last trikes out of the factory. He packed a tent and drove it across the US climbing Pikes Peak along the way. I think he sold it in the early 80's. Amongst his archives I found FFK 393's British registration booklet with all the previous owners listed within, also, papers and bills from when he shipped it to the US from the UK.
